Encounters and combat tracker (beta)

Hey all.

In my last post, I mentioned some upcoming features, one of which was an encounter builder. Well, this release brings it home, and it brings a few goodies along: party management, a combat tracker and a dice roller!

These are some big features, so both encounters and the combat tracker are in beta. They work, but I'm still actively building on them, so expect some rough edges and a few changes along the way. That's also where you come in: I'd love to hear what you think!

Encounters

You can find Encounters in the Library. Give an encounter a name, then add creatures from your own library or the SRD and set how many of each you want. It shows the XP of every line and the total for the fight.

You can also add a creature to an encounter straight from its page, through the "Add to encounter" button.

Encounters are saved on your device only for now.

Party management

Add a party to an encounter, enter their levels, and it will tell you how hard the fight is. Difficulty is based on the 2024 DMG XP budgets: Low, Moderate, High or Above High.

Combat tracker

Hit "Start combat" on an encounter to open the combat tracker:

  • Initiative is auto rolled for each creature, for players, you can fill it in manually or auto roll as well
  • Everyone lands in one list, sorted by initiative.
  • Track hit points with damage and heal buttons, and see at a glance who is bloodied or down.
  • Open any creature's statblock right next to the list.
  • Ten zombies? Turn on shared initiative and they act as one group, while each zombie still keeps its own HP.

Your party members can have an initiative modifier, max HP and AC, so they show up in the tracker too.

Dice roller

There is now a dice roller in the corner of every page. Click a die, or type something like 2d6+3, and your last rolls stay listed. If it's in the way, you can move it to the other side or hide it on your account page.

Smaller things

  • Feature and item descriptions now support bullet lists, in the editor, the statblock, item cards and the Homebrewery export.
  • Premium accounts now also sync their artwork and collections.
  • Fix: SRD creatures now show their 2024 initiative accurately.

Coming up

Now that the first version of the encounter builder and combat tracker are out, here's what's coming next:

  • Turn tracking
  • Condition tracking
  • Temporary hitpoints
  • Save combats for later

Let me know

Since encounters and the combat tracker are brand new, I'm sure there are things I've missed or could do better. If you run into a bug or have an idea, let me know on Discord!

Cheers!
